Everyone has their idea of what to put in their man cave to make it the perfect place to get away, hang out with friends and family, and provide hours of entertainment and enjoyment for everyone. But it takes a lot of planning up front to ensure you can get everything you want into your space.
First, think about the things you must have for your room. If you are planning to use the space to hang out with friends and family, then you will need to make sure you have plenty of comfortable seating for everyone. This could be a couch, love seat or recliners, chairs, and stools. You'll also likely want a large screen TV to watch movies, TV shows, sports, or for playing your favorite arcade console games.
Other items you might consider essential are a Bar or wet bar, or maybe just a fridge or small fridge to keep cold refreshments readily available and a bar cart are sufficient. If building a game room, consider putting a restroom in the game room area as well.
Next think about other entertainment you would like for yourself or for entertaining your guests. A pool table is a great choice to provide hours of entertainment, but careful consideration is required before committing to adding one to your game room. Pool tables take up a lot of space. Typical pool tables are 4ft wide and 7ft or 8ft long, but you can also get a 6ft table or even get bigger tables than 8ft. It is recommended to have an additional 5ft of clear space all the way around the outside of the table for people to be able to hold their cue and take their shot without bumping into something. For a traditional 8ft long table, that means you would need an area 18ft x 14ft to house the table. For smaller game rooms, you might need to forgo the pool table and consider other forms of entertainment.
Other fun games you might want to consider are a dartboard (go with soft tip/plastic tip to keep your walls from getting lots of holes in them from beginner players), arcade games, pinball table, card table, air hockey, shuffle board table, or foosball table. You can get a combination of these games in the same space as just a pool table. See our links below to some of our recommended games in these areas and be sure to read our other blog posts that focus on recommended products.
Additional considerations are proper lighting for your pool table, dart board, or other games. And don't forget the wall decor, including framed pictures and posters of your favorite sports teams, movies, places, or arcade games.
